We also store a cookie when you acknowledge our reliance on cookies, so that we don't have to keep nagging you on every page. This might sound stupid, but nearly everybody does it in order to comply with GDPR.

We also require that users register in order to access the archives. We store your name, email address, a password that you choose, as well as the date and time when you last logged in. You don't have to tell us your real name, but then we won't be able to upgrade your privileges, even if you're an ALK member. It's in your interest to provide a genuine email address that you can access, in case you ever forget your password and want to reset it. The password that you supply is stored encrypted; we don't actually know your password, but we can tell whether you do! We store the time you last logged in so that we can see how many people are still using the system; we might one day decide to purge inactive users.
